71st Letter of Information

  • by

Dear club members, dear other club supporters,

At the beginning of my member information today, I would like to share some information about myself. On 15 June 2023 in Eckernförde, I received the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany from our Federal President. This for my voluntary activities in Sri Lanka. Initially as a small private tsunami project, but then from 2006 onwards as the founder and chairman of the “Rosenkinder” association. This award would not be possible without the support of my family, who are also voluntary helpers and companions of the “Rosenkinder” here in Germany and especially also in Sri Lanka. All this would not be possible without the sustained and loyal financial support of our association members and other association supporters. Many thanks for this and a request to please continue in this way. If you like, you can watch the award ceremony on this video – thanks to our treasurer Curt Hellwig who travelled with us.

And what about the rest of our projects?

Status “Ongoing Projects”

Actually, all ongoing projects will run from the first half of the year into the second half of 2023 according to plan. Yesterday, at its 56th board meeting since its foundation, the board approved the prerequisites for this, namely the funding for the continuation of 69 current sponsorships from August 2023 to January 2024. Namely, the financial means for the continuation of the 69 current sponsorships from August 2023 to January 2024. The financing of 8 teachers and 3 matrons in the girls’ children’s home in Balapitiya. Funding dialogues for the 10 oldest girls will continue via ZOOM next month. Funding for the 2nd training course at the Rosenkinder Hostel in Panadura, starting 1st July 2023. For the first time, 2 girls from our children’s home in Balapitiya are to receive 6 months training in “Beauty Culture” there. The 1st training course with 15 girls will successfully complete the training at the end of this month. 13 of the girls are now starting a 3-month internship in the textile factory we know and will get a permanent job afterwards. 2 girls will continue their training in “Beauty Culture” for another 2 months including a professional internship. Our ongoing support in the boarding school for the blind and deaf in Mahaweewa continues successfully with the supervision of the new activity room by 2 teachers, the continuation of occupational and speech therapy and technical assistance.

17th General Meeting “Rosenkinder” on 11 June 2023

As usual, you will find the minutes of the meeting at the end of this members’ information. As planned, the reports from our three project helpers on site in Sri Lanka were a great insight into the daily life in our projects. For those not present, the minutes are supplemented with some pictures from the meeting. Two pieces of information are additionally relevant.

Project trip to the Land of the “Rosenkinder” 2024

All the information is attached as a separate appendix. Some of our members have already expressed interest in travelling with us. So please feel free to contact me by email or phone if you need further information or are interested. The first travel group meeting is planned for 12 August 2023 – 4pm as part of the usual celebrations.

17th “Rosenkinder” Birthday on 12 August 2023 – 6pm

As usual and also popular, there will again be a personal and cosy little celebration in the garden at the “Vereinshaus” at Heidredder 3 in Uetersen on this day. As usual, the guests will provide a colourful buffet they have brought with them, and the host will provide the drinks. However, I will remind you of this date a few weeks before the celebration.

Enough for today. I wish you all a sunny and beautiful summer. Looking forward to seeing our loyal fans again on 12 August and those interested in the trip to Sri Lanka 2024.
In particular, stay safe and sound and stay connected to the “Rosenkinder”

Your Dieter Kaske
